Anita Sarkeesian (Canadian-American) is a feminist media critic as well as a public speaker, and Canadian. Feminist Frequency was founded by Sarkeesian. The site hosts videos with commentary that analyze the representations of women that are prevalent in popular culture. Feminist Frequency - a not-for profit educational site that explores the representation of women in pop stories of culture - was created and is directed by Sarkeesian. As well as working to expose the issues surrounding the harassment and targeted assaults on women and other minorities in online spaces she is committed to breaking the stereotypes prevalent in pop culture. With a master's in the field of political and social thinking at York University Sarkeesian is also an extremely sought-after public speaker and she has delivered speech at the TEDxWomen Festival as well as The United Nations' Broadband Working Group on Gender. Feminist Frequency was founded on the 9th of September 2009 by Sarkeesian, a University student who has been fascinated by issues that concern gender and feminism since a long time. The ambitious lady planned to launch an internet series that examined gender representation in games, but was the target of an online harassment campaign. However, the attacks did not dissuade her. The experience only strengthened her as a feminist journalist. Sarkeesian has been awarded numerous awards for her numerous significant contributions to the world of feministism. Anita Sarkeesian, a media critic, has been awarded several awards and founded Feminist Frequency which is an educational non-profit that examines the ways women are depicted within the popular culture stories.
